Dr. Na Liu
Researcher at UiB
Topic: Risks of Sulfate-Reducing Bacteria in Underground Hydrogen Storage: Microbial Consumption, Bioclogging, and Wettability Changes
Dr. Liu’s presentation will explore the risks posed by sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) in underground hydrogen storage (UHS), including hydrogen loss, changes in gas composition, H₂S formation, and biocorrosion of technical equipment. The talk will also cover how SRB-induced biofilm formation and mineral precipitation can alter reservoir properties and impact storage integrity.
This research, conducted as part of the EU-funded HyDRA project, focuses on understanding microbial challenges in hydrogen-rich environments and their potential implications for underground storage operations. The insights gained from Dr. Liu’s work will help improve risk mitigation strategies for UHS.
